MY PET SKELETON : GOTHIC TERROR

: : español : :

Vincent Marcone created My Pet Skeleton, great web with gothic style where he shows his work as illustrator, a mixture of diverse styles with an excelent final result. He is also a member of the rock band Johnny Hollow, an experiment of images and sounds. An interview that reflects the unoverse of this artist.

H2o Magazine : Name, age and current occupation.
Vincent Marcone : Vincent Marcone 29, Fine Artist

H2o Magazine : How and When did you start with illustration?
Vincent Marcone : In my final year of design college, I decided to persue my fondness for image crafting. My professors allowed me to stray away from the general fundaments of design to explore my own methods for conjuring imagery. In that brief time, I spent almost every waking moment experimenting and merging my skills as a designer, photographer and fine artist. Since then, I've been hooked. I really can't imagine doing anything else.

H2o Magazine : We love your personal portfolio, the many times awarded MyPetSKeleton, which amazes with its "powerful atmosfere". Tell us about that enviroment you create with your work? What do you intend to express?
Vincent Marcone : Thank you. I approached the design of "my pet skeleton", as a digital installation, rather than considering the merits and strategy of a "successful" website. I wanted to create a digital space that had, what can best be described as, "a moment". If a person takes a little bit of time out of their day to enjoy my digital little home, if they spend a moment inhaling my work, then my site has been a success. That's all I ever intended for my pet skeleton.

H2o Magazine : Where do you find the insporation for your illustrations?
Vincent Marcone : My inspirations are planted directly from my dreams. The moment I awake from the depths of my sleep, everything is clear. I can recall every colour, every texture and every detail. But in the next waking moment, that entire world is forgotten, with only fragments of that vision left for my minds eye to ponder. My images are born from that residue. They are inspired by those rare little bits that I haven't forgotten.

H2o Magazine : Which methods do you use in the creation of your illustrations.
Vincent Marcone : I am very fond of textures. Whenever I compose an image I am always considering the appropriate "veil" of pattern or grit to drape over various shapes and form. This is the key to my creative process. Once the basic paintings/photographs/drawings having been placed into Photoshop, the real fun begins when I create the textured atmosphere to reflect a particular mood.

H2o Magazine : From a very recognozible atmosfere and well known references you obtein and original result and mundial recognision. Which is your secret?
Vincent Marcone : There really is no secret. I just try to stay very true to the things that appear in my head. These things are very common within the archetypes of our human collective, yet they are often taken for granted. I try to bring them out from my own point of reference and really explore how those images effect me emotionally. This is what makes my imagery unique.

H2o Magazine : You are an illustrator, so it's amazing the quality of MyPetSkeleton, not only in the graphic sense: you make an excellent use of multimedia resorts. Are you interested on internet like a way of expression, or just like a way of promotion?
Vincent Marcone : I definitely regard the internet as a unique way for expression. This is the first time in human history that ordinary people have had access to express themselves with the potential of the entire world to hear or see their message. Unfortunately, the world wide web as an icon for freedom and communication, could also be compared to an extensive sewage system that is clogged and overwhelmed with chunks of meaningless information. So, to convey a message amongst this mess, you need to take on a unique approach for people to see your particular brand of "light in the tunnel". I'm hoping that johnnyhollow.com will aluminate itself as well as my pet skeleton does inside the digital depths of cyberspace. A website can be an expression of art and not just a commercial. The two can go hand in hand if treated properly.

H2o Magazine : Tell uas about the Johnny Hollow project, ¿which is your participation on it?
Vincent Marcone : Johnny Hollow is a band with three members. Each of us a conductor and composer collaborating with our collective talents. We make a point to adopt all media to tell our tales and ignore any formula that goes along with the idea of a "traditional" rock band. Johnny Hollow has been in the works for 2 years now, the three of us (Janine, Kitty and myself) have taken great care to put together a collection of songs, sounds, images and stories that we feel separate our album from what is currently available in the music industry. We are very happy by the attention and feedback that this project has generated thus far. We've been blessed by a great deal of fan support.

H2o Magazine : Do you have any other projects right now?
Vincent Marcone : I'm currently designing JohnnyHollow.com which should be released very shortly. I'm also illustrating my own dark fairytale that I've written, which could also end up as a short film if everything goes as planned. New collections of my work will also be added to the site within the near future.

H2o Magazine : What do you think about the new tendences in illustration, flat designs and bright colors?
Vincent Marcone : I'm a fan of all types of design and illustration styles, as long as they are done with originality and forethought.

H2o Magazine : Your favourite illustrators?
Vincent Marcone : David Mckean, Cynthia Von Buhler, Anita Kuntz, Mark Ryden, Dr. Seuss, Maurice Sendak.

H2o Magazine : Traditional or digital illystration?
Vincent Marcone : For me, the most powerful way to craft an image is somewhere in between both of these forms. A hybrid. Traditional illustration with digital illustration offers no creative boundaries for the artist to explore. It doesn't have to be one or another.

H2o Magazine : Your three more visited webs?
Vincent Marcone : www.rue-morgue.com, www.limbikfreq.com, www.favoritewebsiteawards.com

H2o Magazine : How do you see the future of MyPetSkeleton?
Vincent Marcone : My pet skeleton, will continue to be a work in progress. It will evolve and mutate as time moves forward.
